Humanity step up in Italian politics. On 4th December, Monti and his team presented the new austerity measures. Minister Elsa Fornero broke down in tears, while explaining an end to inflation indexing on some pension bands, which will mean an effective income cut for many retired people.
Is this the reason why there are so few women in the Italian Parliament? Is it because we are actually too sensitive?
Anyway this naturalness moved me. I have finally seen someone conscious of what has to be done, and ready to take responsibility of her action, even if it is much to ask to everyone. She is not the only one crying, “this will cost many sacrifices to Italy”, they said. But if the award is democracy, we should be ready for that.
